The intensification and expansion of aquaculture in response to the increasing global demand for fish as a food source present several challenges, particularly with regard to the management of infectious diseases. A thorough understanding of the pathogenic organisms involved, along with the development and application of effective control measures, is crucial for mitigating the impact of aquatic animal diseases on aquaculture productivity. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the principles of aquatic health management, focusing on both preventive strategies essential for maintaining the health and welfare of aquaculture stocks. Additionally, the course will cover the role of biosecurity measures in farm management, as well as the significance of quarantine protocols in regulating the transboundary movement of aquatic species to prevent disease spread.
